The Seventh Artist

You are a fae trickster, bound to provide your liege with seven human artists to grace his court. Over the centuries, you have provided him with six, and with one more, you will be free of his command.

You think you've found what you need. Can you convince your target to step away from human life and entertain the Seelie Court instead? And can you keep him alive long enough to get there?

This is a solo journaling game; all you need is the rules and a way to record your answers to questions to complete the story.

Created for the Gaming Like It’s 1929 Game Jam, the sixth in a series of jams celebrating works that enter the U.S. public domain each year.

The pictures in this game come from Gods’ Man: A Novel in Woodcuts by Lynd Ward. It was published in 1929, a week before the Wall Street crash that kicked off the Great Depression, and its bleak message resonated enough to have strong sales despite the damaged economy. As of January 1, 2025, it  is in the public domain in the United States. Lynd Ward, the author/artist, died in 1985; it will be several years before it is in public domain in Life + 50 countries, and even longer for Life + 70.
